General Building Tips

The quality of the kit is overall very good. While the fit of the parts are excellent, some of the screw holes just don't line up. So far that's my only complaint. So here's my list of general suggestions for building the tank.

1) After you have selected the right screw/bolt, attempt to screw it in the threaded hole without the part assembled. This way you will know if a problem exists with the thread.

2) Always thread the screw in by hand, if it resists, fix the problem, do not force it in. Aluminum is soft and will cross thread easily with a wrench behind it.

3) Before filing or cutting anything, double and triple check the fit. Maybe it is the wrong part. If in doubt, walk away and think about it another day. Contact Armortek before making any major modifications.

4) When using clamps, use nylon pads or wood to protect the aluminum surface.

Tools:

  • Files in both jewelers and regular size. The set of jewelers files should include a few round files 1-3 mm thick. These will be used to file holes to enable the screws to line up. The flat files are useful for deburring.

  • Metrix hex head wrenches, sizes 2-5.5mm
  • Metric sockets
  • Metric drill set
  • Metric Taps M3, M4 I used alot
  • Drill press
  • Hand Drill
  • Dremel Tool with assorted accessories
  • 90 degree countersink for metric screws
  • Metal shears and brake for fabrication

I'm sure there are more suggestions, but then I'm just starting.
