Welcome to Stinch's MAF Tips
Tips that I've found around the net and in books. Most of these I haven't tried but seem like a good idea. Your mileage may vary. As I stated in the to do page, I can't remember everything.
- Prevent the coil wire ends from getting stuck in the sockets. Solder the ends of coil high tension wire. Cut back shield about an 1/16 inch. Break off the little pointed triangular insert in the middle of the brass clip. Push the wire through the hole, spread the wires out and solder it to the brass conductor.
- Removing tires. I dunno, but working on it.
- Engine oil recommendations. Castrol GTX20/50, 30 weight PenzoilL "20/50 or 15/40 and try to get the diesel rated stuff with zinc", Car-Quest FLEET 15/40
- Change engine oil every 500-600 miles.
- Gas: Regular unleaded is fine. Apparently leaded gas came out around WWII, way after the Model A was built.
- Books: Les Andrew's "Model A Ford Mechanics Handbook", Model "A" Instruction Book (owners manual).
- Gas tank cleaning: Drain any gas. Remove the tank from car. Get a bunch of nuts and bolts and count them. Drop them in the tank and shake it water inside. Drain the tank and do this cycle until clean. Etch and seal the tank.
- Replacing oil pan gasket. Check the pan and make sure it is flat. Use a dolly if necessary to bring it back to flat. Use paper and Permatek on both sides. Attach to the block first. Use a little extra where the rear tabs meet the cork over the rear bearing cap. Torque rating is 75 in lbs (6.25 ft lbs) and/or common sense. Don't overly squeeze out the sealer. Henry didn't use torque wrenches back when they were built.
