Welcome to My Bike Page
This web page is a summary of my bikes and various places to ride. It is under construction so bear with me as I put content here over the next few weeks. Safety Fast
My first Cannondale is a 1996 Super V500 full suspension mountain bike. Purchased used, I've replaced the canilever brakes with Avid V-brakes. The stopping power is incredible, with one finger on the front brakes, I can be a high flyer.
The other mountain bike I own is a 1999 Cannondale Super V900 full suspension mountain bike. Originally purchased new by my Dad, he rode it about 650 miles throughout the trails and roads of Trumbull Connecticut. The bike has nice components including Shimano XT rear derailer and older but effective Model 99 Magura Louise hydraulic disc brakes.
During the month of September 2007, the Super V900 was transformed into an "Uber V". Those on the MTBR Cannondale forum have nicknamed the conversion an "Uber V" because it takes the stock "Super V" and changes the geometry with longer forks and a Jekyll rear triangle. The fork is a 2007 Fox Talas 32 RLC. The rear shock is a 2008 Fox DHX 5.0 Air. The bike now has at least 5.5 inches of suspension travel.
Over confidence resulted in a heavy crash on October 29, 2007. Even after 15 plus successful jumps at the same location, I got careless. Improper positioning of the pedal at the jump most likely caused me to loose balance and land off-center to the left. Downhill picture large and small. Started the descent from tree at (1). Between the trees and hit the rock jump. Landed to flat on trail bed 12 feet beyond jump, off balance to the left. As I was starting to come off bike, hit trees to the left. Superman style, top of left shoulder slammed into that tree that leans to the right (2). Small but very solid and didn't move much. Felt like my shoulder was going to get ripped off. By the time I landed at (3) had a broken scapula and partial torn rotator cuff. A mile and half walk out and ten hours in the emergency room.
Oct 29 - Accident
Oct 30 - First visit with orthopedist at the Shelton OSM. Too much pain for evaluation.
Nov 16 - Back to orthopedist. Shoulder pain much less now. MRI recommended to determine why I can't move my arm at the shoulder more than a few inches. Doctor feels that the impact was more from the rear of the shoulder.
Nov 17 - MRI MRI9 1/1
Vintage
An unknown make bike, possibly Raleigh or Phillips made. It has a three speed Sturmey Archer rear hub (AW 0) and a Dynohub generator in the front wheel. I'm still trying to date this bike. It has a serial number of AF27350 making this possibly a model 1961 bike. The Sturmey Archer hub may also be a clue. The AW model transmission was introduced in 1936 and produced until 2001 making this the most popular hub model. A single "0" is after the AW stamp which is unusual since a two or three digit date code is expected. Links: Sturmey Archer Heritage. Dating an old Raleigh
